The music of our in house composers, Jeff Scott and Valerie Coleman, are truly staples of the Imani Winds repertoire, and the woodwind quintet at large. Collaborators are old friends Rene Marie and Rolando Morales-Matos. Highlights of The Classical Underground are Coleman's Afro-Cuban Concerto for Wind Quintet and her arrangement of the traditional spiritual, Steal Away. Also featured is Scott's original composition, Homage to Duke, a piece that celebrates the sacred music of Duke Ellington and an arrangement of the masterpiece of Astor Piazzolla, Libertango. Also the listener will hear the entire seven movement work of the legendary artist, Paquito D'Rivera, Aires Tropicales, that has an extra special Jeff Scott arrangement of the last movement that features voice and percussion!!
