June 2004

The Allegheny Music Festival - Imani Winds will be in residence as woodwind faculty from June 19th to 27th. This music festival and camp takes place on the beautiful campus of Allegheny College in Meadville, PA - less than two hours east of Cleveland. Collegiate, high school and middle school students are encouraged to attend. -more-



May 2004

Imani Winds will once again join the incomparable bandoneon master, Daniel Binelli, for a concert of the passionate music of Argentine tango legend, Astor Piazzolla. These arrangements are by Imani Winds' very own, Jeff Scott. The concert is presented by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and will also feature original music of Valerie Coleman and the traditional repertoire of the wind quintet.



March 2004

Imani Winds is the featured group for Chamber Music Society Lincoln Center's "Double Exposure" Series. This groundbreaking program allows for listeners to hear back-to-back performances of works by three of today's most intriguing composers. The program features two world premieres; Fred Ho's Josephine Baker's Angels from the Rainbow, (funded by a grant through Meet The Composer) and Valerie Coleman's speech and canzone for wind quintet and cd. Also on the program is De Memorias, by Cuban-American composer Tania Leon.



November 2003

July 2003

Imani Winds flutist and composer, Valerie Coleman, is the recipient of the 2003 Meet the Composer Van Lier Fellowship. This $10,000 dollar award is given to an emerging musical talent. It is made possible through the Edward and Sally Van Lier Fund of the New York Community Trust. An additional $3,200 was also awarded to Ms. Coleman for a 2003-2004 composer residency with Young Audiences of New York.



December 2002

Saturday, December 7th. Imani Winds take over Aaron Davis Hall with special guests: Daniel Binelli, Manhattan Brass Quintet, and the legendary Paquito d'Rivera.

Concert featured works by Piazzolla, Binelli, d'Rivera; and music arranged / composed by Imani Winds' own Jeff Scott and Valerie Coleman.

Aaron Davis Hall, Harlem's principal center for the Performing Arts, is located on the campus of City College at 135th and Convent Ave.



Recording Award and Recognition

2003 debut album, Umoja, receives recording award from The Chamber Music America and WQXR . Detailed award information appears in Chamber Music Magazine: April, 2003.

Prize for adventurous programming from Chamber Music America. The award recognized Imani Winds' originality for their concert repertoire.
