Immigrant Songs was commissioned from composer Jeff Scott by Duke University and premiered on October 1, 2023. Originally commissioned in 2022 during Imani Winds’ term as Ensemble in Residence at Duke, this song cycle for soprano and chamber ensemble, examines the complex historical interplay between immigration and national identity in the United States, which continue to take center stage in our civic discourse. The work was premiered by Imani Winds, Faylotte Joy Crayton (soprano), Alex Brown (piano) and Victor Pablo Garcia-Gaetán (percussion).
